Mars in Libra

This week Mars ingressed into the sign of Libra, the sign of his detriment. Mars is the warrior of the zodiac, he describes our energy, drive, passion and desires. Libra, is the mediator, peacekeeper and art curator of the zodiac. Represented by the scales of justice, Libra is concerned with balance, harmony, fairness, justice, love, beauty, art and culture.

Let’s talk about what happens when a planet’s in detriment or fall for a moment. A planet is in detriment or fall when it is within a zodiac sign that is most unlike it’s essential energy and the energy of it’s sign of rulership. For example, Mars is currently in detriment in Libra. Libra is the zodiac sign that is directly opposite Aries, the sign that Mars rules. 

When Mars is in Aries, he is most himself. He functions and expresses himself in an Aries way which is coherent with his essential nature. When Mars is in Libra, he expresses himself with Libran qualities which are in opposition to his essential nature. A planet in fall or detriment isn’t bad, it just indicates a planet that is operating in a way that is most unlike their default expression. 

Mars in Libra is a more considered, tapered down version of Mars. Mars in Libra is passionate about fairness and justice, but will take action in a way that is level-headed, considering all options and both sides of the scales. In Libra, Mars ' view shifts from being self focussed to being focussed on the other. In Libra, Mars wants to channel his energy toward pursuits that are just and good for all. 

We may also feel more energy to create art and beauty with this transit. It feels like a beautiful reprieve from the heaviness of these times. Mars in LIbra invites artistic

 expression of energy. How can you use your energy to make the world a more beautiful place right now?

I personally felt relief when I saw Mars moving into Libra! Our focus and energy will shift toward balance, fairness and justice and more people are likely to take on a considered, balanced outlook and an ability to diplomatically weigh up both sides of the scales. 

Whilst Mars may feel frustration here at not being able to take action in the quick, self-focussed fashion that he is accustomed to (balancing those scales and considering others takes time), this is a transit that can provide the fuel for considered action with long-term gains. 

As Mars moves through Libra he will be following in the footsteps of Mercury and Mars, moving through gates 46, 18, 48, 57, 32 and 50. With the Sun close behind Mars, and Mercury stationing retrograde in Libra soon, there is a lot of splenic activation occurring between now and the end of October. This will most deeply impact those who have gates 29, 58, 16, 20, 10, 54 and 27. 

If you are born with Mars in Libra in your natal chart you will experience your Mars return during this time! This means that the energy we are experiencing feels at home to you, it’s your default nature. It’s also a highly energising time and is great for planning big events such as launches. The themes you experience during this time can give you a good indication of where you will be called to channel your energy over the next 2-years.
